THE CONTEXT

Quest equips learners at Vocational Training Institutes (VTIs) across India with employability skills. QuestApp, their digital learning platform, houses interactive content in areas such as Communicative English, Life Skills, and Digital Literacy to supplement learners’ regular classes.

Given the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on education, the pilot aimed to reposition QuestApp as a career coach for VTI learners and empower them to become self-learners with more agency over their career development.

The new learning experience is more personalised and is delivered over 3 months.

We worked along with a larger team at Fold Labs, a learning experience design studio, on a pilot project for the nonprofit Quest Alliance. In addition to research and strategy, our services included content mapping & development, ideation, and user interface design at the brainstorming and prototyping stage.

We were involved in interviewing trainers and members of the program team to better understand learners’ mindsets and ascertain which lessons learners resonate with and which they find challenging. The inquiry focused on motivations and obstacles in learners’ lives, the types of jobs to which they aspire, factors which influence their decisions, and the kind of guidance they tend to seek from trainers. Insights from this process determined decisions for various elements of the pilot’s design.
